Description

OFFERED HERE VERY RARE

CONN GOLD PLATED ALTO STENBERG PORTRAIT SWEET NATURE SCENE. RARE LATE 1929 CHU BERRY FINISH 97% SAXOPHONE. THE ENGRAVING IS VERY SWEET WITH A LOT OF CONTRAST. THERE IS A:

1 DETAILED CABIN

2 FANTASTIC TREE WITH SUPER REFINED CONTRAST

3 BOAT IN THE WATER ( this is amazing if you copy pic to editor you can blow up and actually see a guy in a row boat with fish in the water )

4 FENCES LIKE A CORRAL THAT HORSES WERE KEPT IN

5 MOUNTAINS IN BACKGROUND

6 BIRDS IN SKY ETC

( THIS ENGRAVING IS SO CRISP YOU CAN FEEL THE RAISED DETAIL OF THE STENBERG ENGRAVERS WORK UNDER YOUR FINGER TIPS WHEN YOU RUB IT )

I TOOK THE SAX A PART AND METICULOUSLY POLISHED EVERY WHERE.

THEN MY TEC DID EVERYTHING TO MAKE HER READY ( STRAIGHTENED KEYS )( MADE ACTION TIGHT ) ( IF ANY DENT WORK HE DID THAT BUT I DON’T THINK THERE WAS ANY IN THE FIRST PLACE ETC ) ( THERE WAS A SLOPPY REPAIR ON THE NECK WHERE IT WAS BUMPED HE CLEANED THAT UP ( SEE PIC 11 AND 12 )

IT IS ALL READY TO BE RE-PADED JUST ADD CORK AND FELT ADJUST !!! SOME OF YOU GUYS WOULD PREFER TO PICK YOUR OWN PADS ANYWAY FOR THIS QUALITY HORN AND MY TEC WAS OVERLOADED TO DO A FULL OVERHAUL ANYWAY.

THIS WAS ONE OF THE LAST LOVELY ENGRAVED STENBERG GOLD PLATED PORTRAITS. IN 1929 CAME THE STOCK MARKET CRASH AND THEN THE 30’S DEPRESSION. THE GOLDEN AGE WAS OVER AND CONN AND OTHER COMPANIES WENT TO STANDARD ENGRAVINGS UNLESS A SPECIAL ORDER WAS PLACED. THIS REALLY HANDCUFFED THE MASTER STENBERG ENGRAVERS. WHICH SUCKED.

THE CASE IS AN ORIGINAL CONN CASE BUT VERY RARE SHAPED. THERE IS NO COMPARTMENT ! IT HAS THE CONN LABEL ON IT. I GUESS I WOULD PLACE THE NECK IN THE BELL OR SOME WHERE SAFE IN A SOCK TO TRAVEL WITH IT. RARE CASE ??? COLLECTOR’S ITEM ( NICE GREEN INSIDE )
NO SMELL ON CASE OR ON SAX. THE CASE IS IN B+ CONDITION.
THE MIDDLE LATCH IS A BIT TEMPERMENTAL. CLOSE IT THEN PUSH BUTTON ALL THE WAY LEFT AND THEN BACK TO THE RIGHT AND IT TIGHTS UP SECURELY. THE OTHER LATCHES ARE FINE !

7 BELL TO BRACE BODY LOOKS FINE ( PUT MY HAND DOWN IN BELL SMOOTH NO BUMPS )

8 RODS FEEL TIGHT ACTION WILL BE NICE

9 I SEE NO OBVIOUS FORMER REPAIRS BUT THE NECK CLEAN UP I MENTIONED ABOVE THAT MY TEC DID ON A NOT SO GOOD FORMER REPAIR ( AGAIN SEE PIC 11 AND 12 )

10 ALL ROLLERS ROLL ( PEARL ROLLERS WERE REPLACED WITH BLACK ONES )

11 COMES WITH NECK PLUG TO PROTECT OCTAVE BAR ETC

12 COMES WITH GOLD PLATED NECK PLUG TO PROTECT OCT. KEY
13 NAIL FILE G#
14 NO CRACKED PEARLS
15 FORKED Eb FUNCTIONING FINE
16 ROLLED TONE HOLES

I PUT THE SHIPPING / INSURANCE AND HANDLING / MATERIALS AT 75 BUT IF IT IS LOWER I WILL REFUND YOU

IF IT IS HIGHER I WILL SEND INVOICE TO YOU FOR DIFFERENCE.

I AM ON EAST COAST SO WHERE YOU ARE LOCATED WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE….THE CASE IS PRETTY SOLID AND HEAVY SO IF YOU ARE IN CAL. WEST COAST SHIPPING WILL BE HIGHER.
