” THE TWO GODDESS’S ”
THIS IS THE RAREST OF RARE CONN CORNETS. THE CONN LOYALIST DOES NOT EVEN HAVE A PICTURE OF ONE !!! VIRTUOSO A. LIBERATI USED ONE FROM THE SAME EXACT YEAR 1921 AS THIS ONE. MORE ON THAT LATER…
THIS CORNET IS BEYOND LOVELY. IT IS STUNNINGLY LOVELY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IT WAS ENGRAVED BY ONE OF THE GREATEST INSTRUMENT ENGRAVERS IN THE WORLD
IN THE GOLDEN AGE OF THE 20’S. IT WAS ENGRAVED BY ONE OF THE CONN STENBERG BROTHERS JULIUS OR ” DOC ” STENBERG !!! IF YOU DON’T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THEM PUT IN A SEARCH.
I CALL IT
” THE TWO GODDESS’S ”
BECAUSE IT FEATURES THE GREEK GODDESS’S
ATHENA- THEGODDESS THAT INVENTED THE PAN FLUTE IS FEATURED
AND
HESTIA- THE GODDESS OF FIRE ( OR THE HEARTH )
BOTH ARE FEATURED ON THE CORNET ( READ MORE ABOUT THESE GODDESS’S IN GREEK AND ROMAN MYTHOLOGY. )
1 THE GOLD PLATE IS ALL BURNISHED ETCHING INTRICATE AS ALL GET OUT.
2 THE COMPRESSION TESTS AND AIR TEST WERE ALL GREAT.
NO SIDE PLAY IN THE VALVES. NO AIR ESCAPING WHEN I HELD DOWN THE VALVE AND I TOOK OFF EACH SLIDE AND BLOW INTO THE CORRESPONDING LEAD PIPE. THE ALL AIR TEST WAS
GREAT ALSO WHEN YOU TAKE OFF 1ST SLIDE AND HOLD DOWN THE 3 VALVE BUTTONS AND BLOW CLOSING THE CORRESPONDING 1ST VALVE OPENING ( SEE PICS OF VALVES )
VALVE SERIAL NUMBERS MATCH THE CORNET SERIAL.
3 THE ENGRAVINGS ARE ONE OF THE MOST DETAILED ENGRAVINGS I HAVE SEEN ON A CONN STENBERG PORTRAIT. THE NUMBER OF ENGRAVING TOOLS MUST HAVE BEEN MANY TO ACHIEVE THE DETAIL DOWN TO THE VERY MYUTE ETCHINGS. THIS PORTRAIT ON MINE IS ONE I HAVE NEVER SEEN SO FAR I THINK IT IS A ONE OFF !!!!!! RARE RARE
4 THE CONN LOYALIST DOES NOT EVEN HAVE A PICTURE OF A 86a… OR THE PERSON CHRISTINE WHO RUNS THE SITE ( GREAT SITE ) HAS NEVER EVEN SEE ONE. IT IS A CONN “BORE SIZE #1 .438
IT IS A CONN “BORE SIZE #1 = .438
THE WAY TO DISTINGUISH THE 84a VERSES THE 86a IS THE 84a HAD THE THROW MECHANISM TO CHANGE TO TO PLAY IN “A” WHILE THE 86A HAS NO MECHANISM. HOWEVER THEY BOTH HAD THE 4375. BORE SIZE ! !
Conn Bore Number | Bore Size Inches | Bore Size Millimeters | Conn’s Cornet Description | Conn’s Trumpet Description |
---|---|---|---|---|
½ | 0.422″ | 10.72 | – | – |
1 | 0.438″ | 11.11 | – | Small |
1½ | 0.458″ | 11.64 | Small | Medium |
2 | 0.468″ | 11.91 | Medium | Large |
2½ | 0.484″ | 12.30 | Large |
HERE IS WHAT SHE SAID:
>I would like to add that references to bore numbers such as “#1” or “#1½” can only be found on Conn instruments around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Other than those instruments and the model number lists on R. Jones’s site I have never seen references to these bore numbers in any Conn documentation I have found.<
ALSO I MENTIONED VIRTUOSO A. LIBERATI USED ONE A GOLD PLATED ALL BURNISHED ONE LIKE THIS ONE I AM SELLING. HIS ENGRAVING IS ” LEDA AND THE SWAN ” PORTRAIT ( COMMMON ENGRAVING SEEN ON STENBERG ENGRAVED TRUMPETS TOO. ) WITH 2 MODIFICATIONS. NO WHEEL ON THE OPERA GLASS TUNER AND NO STOP THROW ROD ( THE 86a I HAVE HAS THE WHEEL AND THROW ROD ) THIS IS FROM THE ROBB STEWART SITE A REAL EXPERT ON INSTRUMENTS. ( THX FOR SHARING ROBB )
” The only obvious differences from the standard model are the lack of both the “opera glass” tuning wheel on the main tuning slide and the A tuning stop rod on the auxiliary slide. ”
6 THIS IS A NEW WONDER ( VICTOR ) A COLLECTORS DREAM OR A PLAYER AND COLLECTORS DREAM.
7 I DON’T HAVE THE ORG. CASE BUT WILL SHIP IN A BRAND NEW PROTEC CASE.
THERE ARE 2 MOUTHPIECES A COOKIE CUTTER AND A SLIGHTLY LONGER CORNET MPC.
DENNIS WICK MAKES A NICE VINTAGE SHORT SHANK ONE THAT WOULD BE A NICE FIT FOR THIS ALSO. I HAVE ONE BUT I KEEP IT TO TEST AND COMPARE CORNET MOUTHPIECES ETC.
IT ALSO COMES WITH A GOLD PLATED CLEANING ROD AND IF POLISHED WHAT MAYBE A GOLD PLATED LYRE.
8 FINISH FANTASTIC ( I HAND POLISHED IT EVEN IN NOOKS AND CRANNIES ) ONLY SOME WEAR ON THE TOP OF OPERA GLASS TUNER SLIDE
9 Â ADJUSTABLE FINGER HOOK
1O I GAVE THE GODDESS’S A NICE WARM BATH. AND CLEANED ALL THEIR SLIDES OUT AND INTERIOR BODIES.
HAHAHAA…AND CLEANED OUT THEIR VALVE CHAMBERS !!!!!Â
I HAVE TRIED TO DESCRIBE THIS TO THE BEST OF MY ABILITY
